How to make a luminaria
Sunday, August 31st, 2008Luminaria are paper lanterns made from paper bags with a candle for illumination. On our site we have had instructions on how to make them for some time.
Just recently we decided to begin a series of how to articles and videos for the web site and we chose this one as our first.
Making the video was a bit of a challenge and now we can see why good actors are paid so much. It’s easy to read a script sitting in a chair with no one around but now try it in front of a camera.
Actually once we got the script down it only took us about 3 takes to shoot the whole thing. It probably took just as long to edit and do the credits.
One thing we learned while making this video is that there are little battery powered lights that flicker like a candle. These would be perfect for use indoors. As a matter of fact they would be good in any instance as an alternative to a candle. The battery lights cost about 3 times as much as a candle but the safety aspect make them worth it.
