Testimonials

Hi,
Were Phyllis and Tom Roberts and although this web site is The Wedding Department our business is name is Five Cedars.
Our studio is located in the Thousand Islands Region of New Your State off the eastern tip of Lake Ontario.

About 24 years ago we were fiddling with some clay at the kitchen table. We had never worked with clay before but soon found out that clay shapes fired in a kiln would make pleasant sounds when hung as a wind chime. We began making clay wind chimes in the shape of maple leaves and sold them part time at local arts and crafts markets.

After a few years we began making bird houses and feeders from terra cotta. Our bird feeders were very popular and about 12 years ago we began working full time making the wild bird items and the wind chimes. Our first web site was "wildbirds.net" and the bulk of our business was suppling wholesale wild bird items to specialty stores across the US and Canada.

One day we got a call from a bride to be who saw our wind chimes and wondered if we could make them a bit smaller and more affordable for a wedding favor. She bought some of the heart chimes and offered them as favors at her wedding. We forgot about the wedding favors and went on making our bird feeders.
Then one day, shortly after the wedding we received a call from a bride to be and she wondered if we could make her wedding favors. And this is how we decided to launch this web site.

Now every year we have seen a marked increase in business and thanks to our
methods developed from years of making clay chimes we have been able to
handle the business while maintaining the hands on attention to each favor.

In 2001 we were displaced by a fire in the building which housed our studio. We bought a house with enough property to build a new larger studio. The wedding favors have dominated our business since then and we have finally built an addition to the studio so that we can begin to make our bird feeders and houses again.

Our brides continue to be our best source of inspiration with requests for special
designs and constant feed back on existing ones.

We enjoy the personal interaction with our customers and the thought that we are
contributing to their wedding in a meaningful fashion and we intend to keep it that way
for many years to come.
