In some folk lore the dragonfly is viewed as a dark and even sinister symbol that might put out your eyes or even sew them shut.
Fortunately these days we seem to have forgotten these references and replaced them with some that are brighter.
Today dragonfly's are thought to represent illusion and dreams as well as renewal after hardship.

Paired mating dragonfly's form a heart which is universally thought of as a symbol of love and devotion.
And it is also thought that the dragonfly represents rebirth and change, possibly because the dragonfly starts life as an nymph,
living underwater until it changes into the winged version we are familiar with.
